Regent Centre brightens Christchurch with colourful quotes
“I’ll be back” states a poster on The Regent Centre door in Christchurch and there seems little doubt that it will be. The local theatre hopes to re-open in September subject to ongoing COVID-19 guidelines from the government.
In a bid to cheer up the high street, the theatre has dispensed with its usual advertising features on the front of its building and instead has covered its windows and display boards in famous movie quotes, many of which have been sent in by customers.
“We decided it would be great to let the building speak for itself. We’ve been showing films since 1931 and there are so many famous quotes from films out there that reflect where we are as an organisation and that can provide some solace and humour for passers-by,” said Matthew Vass-White the general manager.
Quotes include the famous line ‘Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore’ from the Wizard of Oz (1939) through to more obscure but highly relevant lines such as ‘Two’s company, five’s a crowd!’ from A Night At The Opera (1935).
The theatre’s programme information from September onwards can be found at www.regentcentre.co.uk where customers can also purchase gift vouchers and make donations to help ensure the future of the venue.
