Officers investigating a fatal road traffic collision near Wimborne are renewing their appeal for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward – with officers trying to trace vital witnesses. At around 4.13pm on Wednesday 10 June 2015 a two vehicle head-on collision between a black BMW 3 Series and a blue Ford Fiesta took place on the A31 between the Lake Gates and Merley Bird roundabouts. Sadly, the female driver of the Fiesta died at the scene and three other passengers in the same car were seriously injured.
The front seat passenger, an 18-year-old woman from Ringwood, was taken to Poole Hospital by ambulance where she remains with serious injuries. A rear seat passenger – a 19-year-old Alderholt man – was taken to Southampton Hospital but will hopefully be released soon. Another passenger – a 16-year-old Ringwood boy – was also taken to Southampton but is expected to be transferred to Poole Hospital in the near future. The prognosis for these three passengers is good and they are expected to make a full recovery.
Meanwhile two men who were travelling in the BMW were taken to Poole Hospital. The driver remains there with serious injuries while the passenger has been released.
Inspector Matt Butler, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “We are still looking into the circumstances of the collision and I would like to renew our appeal for anyone who saw either vehicle prior to or at the time of the collision to please contact us on 101. I am particularly keen to trace the occupants of a red or purple Ford KA, as I believe they may have vital information that could help with our enquiries. This car was very close to the collision and stopped but was then asked by the fire service to move on to enable them to deal with the incident. It would be very helpful if these witnesses could come forward and speak with us.”
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 10:244. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 (mobile phone tariffs may apply).
