Resurfacing works to take place on Charminster Road from 6 April
Resurfacing works to Charminster Road in Bournemouth are due to take place from 6 April, and will take 12 days to complete.
Works have been scheduled over the Easter holiday period whilst traffic levels around local schools are lower than normal.
In order to complete the works, Charminster Road (B3063) will be closed to through traffic from the junction of Charminster Avenue up to the Broadway roundabout in a series of sequential phases which will be in effect from 7am to 7pm Monday – Friday. The main signed diversion route will be along Castle Lane West (A3060), Wessex Way (A338) and Richmond Park Road (A3049).
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has planned this work so that a utility contractor can make use of the road closure to construct a trench crossing on the Broadway roundabout, avoiding the need to close the road again at a later date.
Head of Traffic Management for BCP Council, Gary Powell, said: “We apologise to residents and road users for any inconvenience caused and our appreciation goes out to you for your patience.”
Emergency services, local residents and businesses are being contacted and advance warning signs and variable message signage are in place. Refuse collection days will be unchanged, although collection times may vary. Bus routes will require alteration so passengers are advised to contact operators for details.
These works are being funded by the Department for Transport via the £2.9 million Pothole Fund. They follow the successful completion of similar resurfacing projects in Ashley Road and Poole Road.
