Little Red Riding Hood
Broadstone Pantomime Productions, Broadstone War Memorial Hall
By Luke Graham
If you’re still feeling the January blues, this entertaining pantomime might just be the tonic.
Broadstone Pantomime Productions has been entertaining audiences since it was founded all the way back in 1979. This year’s production expands on the original classic fairy tale by adding a love interest for Little Red, introduces Robin Hood as Little Red’s brother, and a subplot featuring Goldilocks getting arrested and sent to jail for petty theft.
The script by Rachel Cheeseman and Leah Jane (who also stars as Goldilocks) is entertaining with several funny lines and is well performed by this large ensemble.
With so many actors in the cast, it’s impossible to mention all of them, but there are a few highlights. Roxie Yates is a confident stage presence as the titular Little Red Riding Hood; Malachi Pike performs well in the ‘children’s friend’ role as Jim Downdarowd; and Cameron Elliott steals the show as the pompous yet menacing Wolf — I especially enjoyed his rendition of Duran Duran’s ‘Hungry Like the Wolf’.
The cast boasts some incredible singers, including Emma-Jane Green and Slaney Gilson. Lauren Moses was also hilarious as Little Red’s feisty, fighting Grandma.
Director Emma-Louise Pottinger has done an incredibly job directing this huge cast, which features veteran company members and several fresh faces. The staging is also impeccable, with brilliant sets, costumes and lighting.
This year’s pantomime is dedicated to the company’s founder Malley Tiche, who sadly passed away in 2025.
There’s still a chance to catch this entertaining production, with performances this coming Friday and Saturday. Purchase your ticket from https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/broadstone-productions.
