Ringwood celebrates nature at New Forest Thrive festival
The event held at Carvers Recreation Ground aimed to inspire the next generation to look after the New Forest and tackle the climate emergency.

On Sunday, Carvers Recreation Ground in Ringwood hosted a brand-new festival called New Forest Thrive.
Organised by the New Forest National Park Authority, the free event aimed to celebrate the Forest’s communities and inspire more community-led action to tackle the nature and climate emergencies.
Visitors to the free event were able to try out the bikes belonging to PEDALL New Forest Inclusive Cycling, join a drum circle led by African Activities, take part in wild play run by rangers from the National Park Authority, or help build a bug hotel.
Representatives from local organisations including The Parks Foundation, Ringwood Against Climate Emergency, Freshwater Habitats Trust, and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust all had stalls to provide information to attendees about nature projects or ways they can help the environment.
Meanwhile, Southampton-based youth arts group Theatre for Life performed a preview of their new play ‘Bringing the Outside In’.
The New Forest Thrive festival is supported as part of the YouCAN (Youth for Climate and Nature) scheme through a Climate Action Fund grant from The National Lottery Community Fund.
According to one of the organisers, the event is part of a trial run for a bigger event to be held in the future.
Claire Pearce, youth development officer at New Forest National Park Authority, said: “We’re halfway through the project, and we’re going to hopefully have a bigger festival next year to celebrate some of the work that’s been going on.
“YouCAN is all about getting young people involved in nature and climate and having their voice. They’re the custodians of the Forest in the future, so it’s all about giving them different ways to engage with the forest.”
