Ringwood School embraces #HelloYellow in support of mental health with nail painting
A Hampshire school embraced #HelloYellow to show its support of World Mental Health Day on 10 October.
The charity Young Minds called on schools across the UK to take part in #HelloYellow and Ringwood School embraced the idea to show young people that they are not alone with their mental health problems.
The day began at 8am with sixth form students hosting free yellow nail painting for both students and staff. One nail was painted for free and if £1 was donated to Young Minds all 10 nails were painted.
It proved so popular that it continued throughout break and lunchtime, accompanied by an impromptu cake sale.
Students from Years 7-13 contemplated the meaning of yellow during their daily tutor time, and staff showed their support by wearing a variety of shades of yellow.
Over £150 was raised for Young Minds through the nail painting and cake sale.
Progress leader, Mrs Vicki Lewis, who co-ordinated the school’s recognition of the day, commented, “At Ringwood School we take the mental health of our young people very seriously. Our pastoral care is excellent and students know that there is always an open door policy if they need to and want to talk. It was fantastic to see so many students and staff getting involved with the day and embracing #HelloYellow.”
