TRUE romantic Rosie Guest won hearts at Yellow Buses (YB) by submitting the winning poem for its Valentine’s competition.
She was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a heart-shaped box of chocolates after triumphing in the annual contest to ‘beat the bus bard.’
Each year the Yellows challenge budding writers to pen a suitably corny poem as part of the bus company’s preparations for Valentine’s Day.
Rosie was picked as the winner after penning a two stanza poem which will appear in 4,000 Valentine cards.
The cards, together with red roses, were being presented to passengers on Valentine’s Day, Thursday February 14.
Rosie, who works at Castlepoint Library in Bournemouth, said: “I’m thrilled and surprised.
“I’ve always enjoyed writing, particularly Pam Ayres’ type rhymes, but I didn’t really expect to win.”
Rosie, who lives in Moordown and has been married to husband Philip since 1996, added: “We always observe Valentine’s Day with a card and a special meal so you could say I’m a bit of a romantic.”
Jenni Wilkinson, YB’s Head of Marketing, said: “Our annual ‘beat the bus bard’ has become a firm favourite with our passengers and Rosie is a worthy winner.
“She now has the satisfaction of seeing her name printed in thousands of Valentine Day cards. The age of romance is certainly not dead.”
Rosie’s poem reads:
I love to use the Yellow bus,
With Glo cards there is not the fuss
Of searching for money – high and low
Now you board, just ‘swipe’ and GLO.
Whether going to work or meeting friends in town
The Yellow’s new Glo card helps get me around
This Valentine’s Day my heart is given
To the Yellow bus and whoever has driven!
