RVS festive spread for older people hosted in Dorchester
Dorchester Library & Learning Centre hosted a Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) Festive Spread on 18 December with 26 guests attending.
Despite horrendous weather, older members of the community and volunteers from the local RVS Home Library Service and various groups run by the library attended and were treated to a festive buffet lunch courtesy of RVS and the Morrisons Foundation.
It was part of RVS’s national campaign to ensure that older and more vulnerable members of the community don’t have to spend Christmas alone.
All guests received a warm welcome and enjoyed a time of company and conversation in a festive atmosphere. Local Community Choir ‘Cloud 9 Chorus’ provided entertainment by performing festive songs and readings, and even some well-known carols for all to sing along.
High Sheriff of Dorset Callum Bremner also joined the event and spoke of his appreciation for all of the RVS Home Library Service volunteers and the great work they do in their various roles. Children from Prince of Wales First School in Dorchester had made place mats to decorate the tables, individual Christmas cards for each guest, and pictures as gifts for attendees.
The event proved a success and showed how important it was to bring people together, especially during the festive season.
Royal Voluntary Service provides the Home Library Service in Dorset and BCP, with volunteers at each library who choose and deliver books for those unable to get to the library themselves.
