Sandbanks revealed as UK’s most photographed beach
A study has found that Sandbanks Beach near Poole is the most photographed beach in the UK.

The UK is home to plenty of beautiful beaches, but according to a new study, Dorset has the most photogenic ones.
The team at camera company Jessops analysed Instagram to find which UK beach had been photographed the most times, based on hashtag data.
They found that Sandbanks, the affluent peninsula near Poole, had been hashtagged 48,600 times on the social media platform.
Meanwhile, the iconic Durdle Door on the Jurassic Coast was the second most photographed, with 41,300 hashtags.
Here is the list of the top 10 most photographed beaches in the UK, according to the study:
- Sandbanks, Dorset: 48,600 Instagram hashtags
- Durdle Door, Jurassic Coast, Dorset: 41,300
- Whitstable Beach, Kent: 40,900
- Holkham Beach, Norfolk: 40,600
- Cuckmere Haven, Seaford, East Sussex: 34,100
- West Wittering, West Sussex: 32,700
- Woolacombe Sands, Devon: 31,500
- Cromer Beach, North Norfolk: 28,800
- Crantock Beach, Newquay, Cornwall: 26,700
- Bees, Cumbria: 26,200
Lizzie James, product specialist at Jessops, said: “Most of the UK’s most photographed beaches are clustered in the south, but you definitely shouldn’t be overlooking the north. There are some real gems up there too, like the dramatic cliffs of Whitley Bay and the rugged beauty of St Bees in Cumbria.”
James offered advice on how to take the perfect beach photo this summer. She said: “If you’re visiting on a bright day, try shooting in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun is lower in the sky. This is known as golden hour, and for good reason. The light is softer and warmer, which helps add depth and glow to your shots.”
Also, try to keep the horizon straight. James said: “Keeping your horizon level is one of the simplest ways to instantly improve your beach photos, especially when you’re shooting wide seascapes. A tilted horizon can be distracting and throw off the whole composition, unless you’re going for a creative angle on purpose.”
