Sarah’s epic cycling challenge for Fire Fighters Charity
A Bournemouth firefighter is in training for a massive cycling challenge, where she hopes to raise as much money as possible for the Fire Fighters Charity.
Firefighter Sarah Bascombe, who is stationed at Springbourne fire station, has signed up for the Paris to Geneva cycling event in September.
After a period of injury, Sarah only got back on her bike in March and is now training hard for the challenge.
She said, “Back in 2012, I cycled from London to Paris, raising over £2,200 for the Fire Fighters Charity, so I’m hopeful to raise at least that much again. I am covering the trip costs myself, so every penny donated will go directly to the charity. I will be covering around 330 miles over four days, with lots of mountainous climbs, including some of the famous Tour de France climbs, reaching the peak of the 1,323m Col de la Faucille mid-way on the final day. I know this ride will be challenging, but I’m determined to complete it.”
She added, “Many of my colleagues and I have used the Fire Fighters Charity at some point. It is reassuring to know that help and support is available should we need it. The charity is almost entirely funded through donations from the fire community and the public; therefore it is important that we do what we can to fundraise and support them, too.”
