The Rotary Club of Bournemouth East Cliff has been one of the partners in a major project in establishing a specialist children’s hospital in Bo, the second city of Sierra Leone.
Working with the Rotary Clubs of Turramarra in Australia and the community of Bo, the first phase of the hospital is now operating, saving children’s lives.
As part of Bournemouth’s ongoing support the club is paying for a specialist children’s nurse, Mrs Martha Hoilma Sandi who trained in Sierra Leone.
The Bournemouth Club is continuing to support this development in one of the poorest countries in Africa where infant mortality is amongst the highest in the world. Mrs Sandi as part of the clinical team will be treating over 200 children a month who are suffering with a variety of life threatening conditions including, malaria, pneumonia, gastroenteritis and typhoid.
