Saxophonist donates £5,000 to Diverse Abilities
Musician Pete Thomas has donated funds raised through his two specialist saxophone websites, Taming the Saxophone and Café Saxophone to Langside School, a specialist school run by local disability charity Diverse Abilities.
Pete raises money through the websites by selling saxophone-related goods and subscriptions to a forum, and donates his profits to a different charity each year. For 2016, he chose to support Langside School and presented them with £5,000 to support music therapy at the school.
The generous donation will be used for musical equipment for the school near Poole.
Langside School is a charity-run special school for pupils aged two to 19 with profound and multiple learning disabilities and complex medical needs. The school provides a full sensory and therapeutic approach to meeting the needs of the pupils and helps them to achieve their full potential, with nursing support in every class.
Music therapy at Langside School benefits children with disabilities by encouraging positive changes in behavior and emotional well-being. Music therapy sessions are very often a group activity involving communication, listening and sharing.
Jon Seaward, school principal, said, “We are extremely thankful for the support received from Pete and his websites. We will use the money raised to buy an incredible musical instrument, called a soundbeam, which uses motion sensors and switches to translate body movements into music and sound – perfect for our children at Langside.”
