Annette Brooke MP was delighted to welcome Liberal Democrat Schools Minister David Laws MP to Mid Dorset and North Poole to meet secondary school head teachers and visit a local school.
David was accompanied on his visit to the Purbeck School by Annette and by Vikki Slade, prospective Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Mid Dorset and North Poole.
David was pleased to have a tour of the Purbeck School with the head teacher Leanne Symonds and to see firsthand the many improvements to the school buildings that have been made. He also answered questions from Year 11 pupils.
David then met with the head teachers of Poole Grammar School, Parkstone Grammar School, Corfe Hills School and Queen Elizabeth’s School.
Topics covered were wide ranging and challenging. They included sixth form funding, transport costs for 17-year-olds with the rise in the school participation age, the recent announcement regarding changes in regulations regarding sitting GCSE examinations, future changes in school funding and the pupil premium.
