Scrabbling around in Ferndown gets serious with Steve
Residents at Kings Park care home in Ferndown enjoyed an afternoon of brainpower when ‘Scrabble Man Steve’ turned up with his giant Scrabble board.
Playing in two teams, the game soon got serious and when one team played ‘cheque’ for 63 points, the pressure was on.
Steve encouraged the residents to come forward with their ideas and often a deep conversation about the meanings and origins of words took place, which created more enjoyment of the activity.
Although ‘cheque’ took one team to a substantial lead, the other team soon caught up and the game ended with just one point between them.
One resident, Pat, said how enjoyable the afternoon had been, adding: “It is so interesting to look into the origin of words and phrases that we all use daily and Steve makes it such a fun afternoon.”
Kings Park care home, which is run by Barchester Healthcare, provides residential and residential dementia care and respite care.
