Second consultation for Poole’s Keyhole Bridge
This is the second consultation as a High Court ruling stated that the previous period had been too short.
Measures to prioritise walking and cycling at Keyhole Bridge on Whitecliff Road in Poole are going out to public consultation for the second time.
In August 2020, the authority, in response to the Department for Transport’s Emergency Active Travel programme, introduced an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) to prioritise walking and cycling on Whitecliff Road at Keyhole Bridge between Poole Park and Whitecliff Park.
The ETRO could run for up to 18 months, however a decision was subsequently made to withdraw the ETRO measures on 1 March 2021. A ruling published by the High Court found that the consultation period ended earlier than had originally been indicated and that the council should operate a further 40-day consultation running to 8 April 2022.
Julian McLaughlin, BCP Council’s service director for Transport and Engineering, said: “The consultation which we are opening will give everyone the opportunity to provide any new evidence regarding Keyhole Bridge. We would specifically ask those thinking about responding to our consultation to consider the judge’s comment that those who have already responded ought not to send a further response, unless there is a genuinely new point to be made.”
