There’s a rare chance to see artists at work this summer when South West Artwork takes over the Gallery at Lighthouse, Poole’s centre for the arts, and hosts Open House.
For eight weeks SWA artists will be at work in a natural studio environment, working collaboratively, using the space as their studios, creating an exhibitions space and even a pop-up shop.
Expect all kinds of live art activity including painting, illustration, wood engraving, printmaking, graffiti and more as artists arrange a programme of workshops and talks that relate to their practice.
At the end of the residency SWA will host a full exhibition to summarise the gallery residency.
The image shows the mural created by five SWA artists as part of their Urban vs Rural exhibition. The mural was painted directly on the wall of the Gallery at Lighthouse.
“It was a great opportunity for the artists to work collaboratively in a new way within the Gallery space,” says SWA Creative Director Laura Mulhern. “We are really looking forward to coming back and using the space in yet more interesting and diverse ways.
“Expect to see every type of contemporary visual art on display, or being created there and then.”
The Gallery is open Saturday 16 May – Saturday 25 July,Tuesdays – Saturdays.
