Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after a man was bitten by a dog in Poole.
The victim, who lives locally, was walking along Sandy Lane in Upton between 9am and 10am on Friday 15 January when a dog jumped up and bit his ring finger.
He suffered serious injuries to his finger and was admitted to hospital for surgery.
The dog has been described as grey and black in colour and similar to a Yorkshire Terrier.
Police Constable Roan Doyle, of Purbeck police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have seen a dog matching the description given in the Sandy Lane area of Upton to please contact me so I can locate its owner.
“I’d like to remind dog owners to take some time to consider how their dog interacts with other animals and humans.
“If you are in any doubt at all about how your dog might behave, please consider safety measures while on walks and keep it on a short lead.”
