The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) has handed over the keys to a 16 seater minibus which will serve Ferndown Upper School, Ferndown Middle School, West Moors Middle School, Beaucroft Foundation School, Ferndown First School, Parley First School, Hampreston First School and 2358 (Ferndown) Squadron Air Cadets.
The minibus has been leased for five years and is totally financed by the charity. It will provide local school children with access to activities that will enhance learning and also offer the benefit of out-of-school activities and sports. The Air Cadets will use the vehicle at weekends and during school holidays for transport to and from adventure training and camps.
The JTYAF is delighted to fund this project and enjoyed sharing the celebration with local head teachers, charity trustees and very excited school children. The first journey made was to take children from West Moors Middle School to their swimming lessons.
Pete Thornton, chairman of the JTYAF, commented, “It’s a great day for us all and we can’t wait to see local school children benefit from the opportunities that it will make available. Without our supporters this just wouldn’t have been possible so we hope that they will be as proud as we are when they spot the bus out on the road.”
The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) was established in 2008 to honour the memory of Royal Marine officer John Thornton, from Ferndown, who was tragically killed, at the age of 22, whilst serving in Afghanistan. For more information about the charity visit http://www.jtyaf.org
