Severe weather warnings for BCP Council area
With a Met Office yellow warning for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, flooding and disruption is likely to occur.
With heavy rain and strong winds forecast for today, Thursday 7 December, and more rain to follow in the following days, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole residents are advised to prepare for flooding and disruption.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of rain in the BCP area, with significant rainfall expected between 11am and 10pm today.
Residents are advised to stay informed with local weather reports and should follow BCP Council’s safety and preparation advice.
Those travelling by car or motorbike should avoid flooded areas and not drive directly through flood water or mud, which could leave vehicles stranded.
Local bus and train services could be affected, and residents are advised to check directly with the service provider for status updates.
Those walking should keep well clear of cliff edges and bases and exercise caution when walking near large bodies of water such as rivers and lakes.
Parents are encouraged to allow additional time for journeys to school, as travel disruption is possible.
Cllr Vikki Slade, leader of BCP Council said: “Heavy rainfall and strong winds are likely to cause disruption across the BCP area, so I urge residents to stay informed with local weather reports and prepare for any impact this could have on you and your family.
“Our teams are on standby and well prepared to respond to any issues caused by this severe weather, helping to keep you safe.”
