Shaftesbury Lido reopens following crowdfunding campaign
Dorset’s only open-air swimming pool reopened in June following a successful crowdfunding campaign and renovations.

Do you fancy swimming outside but are not sure about the quality of the water in the sea and local rivers? Then consider paying a visit to Shaftesbury Lido.
Following a £100,000 facelift and refurbishment, Dorset’s only open-air public swimming pool reopened on 7 June.
The lido has been managed by Shaftesbury Town Council since 2016. Earlier this year, the council and a community group, Friends of Shaftesbury Swimming, worked together on a crowdfunding campaign and successfully raised £30,000 needed to complete essential renovations.
These included: a new filtration system and pipework; installing new pool lining; improved drainage; general maintenance and replacing tiles.
Speaking to the BBC, the lido’s general manager Harriet Green said: “The people that have supported us have been incredible and we are so, so grateful.
“We cannot quite get our heads around how much support we’ve had and how much money people have raised for us.”
The lido is one of the oldest pools still operational in the country: Shaftesbury’s first swimming club was formed in 1891.
The pool is open seven days a week, from 6.30am to 7pm Monday-Friday and 7.30am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday, though private bookings and special sessions are available. Prices are £6 per adult and £4.50 for children under 18, though concessions are available.
