Netball fever has hit Allenbourn Middle School in Wimborne. For the first time ever, three year groups have qualified for the netball county finals. Girls in Years 6, 7, and 8 have been dodging, marking and shooting their way through the area events to gain qualification for Dorset finals.
“We are really proud of them,” said PE teachers Mrs Darragh and Miss Dufek. “In the past we have narrowly missed out on qualification, so to have three year groups get through this time is a tribute to the hard work, skill and determination all the girls have put into practising and playing.”
At the recent finals the Yr 8 team won through to the semi-finals, finishing 4th overall. The Year 7 team, though weakened by illness, fought to come third in their group. The Year 6 team will be playing at the Dorset School Games later in March, and hope to follow last year’s winning streak, when Allenbourn were crowned Year 6 County champions.
Retiring Headmaster, Mr Brooks said, “It has been a fitting end to my time at Allenbourn that the girls have done so well. Sport is my first love and as a fellow PE teacher, I know how much time and effort has been put into the girls achieving such great results. The school and all their parents are extremely proud of them.”
