Shrek to appear at Wimborne theatre
Wimborne Musical Theatre Society is staging ‘Shrek the Musical’ at the Tivoli Theatre from 25–27 June, with matinee and evening performances.
The jolly green ogre Shrek will appear live on stage this June at the Tivoli Theatre, when Wimborne Musical Theatre Society stages its next major musical production.
‘Shrek the Musical’ tells the story of a grumpy but lovable ogre’s hilarious adventure to rescue the feisty Princess Fiona and reclaim his swamp. Along the way, he is joined by the fast-talking Donkey, faces off with the villainous Lord Farquaad, and discovers that true love and friendship really do come in all shapes and sizes.
Filled with dazzling costumes, laugh-out-loud moments and a whole host of quirky fairytale creatures, the show proves that being different is truly what makes you special.
‘Shrek the Musical’ is adapted from the DreamWorks Animation motion picture and features audience-favourite songs like “I’m a Believer”, “Freak Flag” and “I Know It’s Today”.
Director Duncan Trew said: “We are delighted to be bringing this iconic and uplifting story to life in Wimborne, and it’s fantastic to be working alongside such a gifted cast and crew. This extends to our two junior cast teams — local young performers who are truly shining in their roles and are sure to steal the spotlight. Rehearsals have been an absolute joy, and we cannot wait for audiences to share in the fun.”
Direction is assisted by Hilary Baker, with musical direction from Matt Timms and choreography by Suzi de Villiers and Kiera Rickford. The cast features more than 40 talented children and adults, including Jack Hosking-Ellis, Selina Rumbold, David Swain, Alan Colclough, Lauren Ferger-Andrews, Jemma Cable and Charlotte Squibb.
The show will be performed from 25–27 June, with evening performances from Thursday to Saturday, plus a matinee on Saturday.
Book through the Tivoli box office on 01202 885566 or online at www.tivoliwimborne.co.uk. Tickets currently cost £22 per adult, plus booking fee.
Wimborne Musical Theatre Society was formed in 1968 and has been performing shows every year since 1970 (except for 2020). To learn more about the society, its future production and how to get involved, visit https://www.wimbornemusical.com/home.
