Sign up for Diverse Abilities’ virtual Dorset Neon Run
If you had been training for Diverse Abilities’ Dorset Neon Run – set for 26 April - and had been disappointed when it was postponed until 12 September, don’t despair, as it will now be taking place virtually over the Bank Holiday weekend of Saturday 23, Sunday 24, and Monday 25 May.
The 5km event can be undertaken as part of the government directed one exercise per day, and social distancing measures must continue to be taken. It is not time-chipped so participants can walk the distance, as well as run. While the event traditionally takes place at night, for the neon aspect to be in full force, participants can complete their 5km during the day if they wish. For those running at night, it is recommended to use a headtorch for safety.
Those already registered for the event will receive their running packs in the post, and new participants are invited to sign up on the website, dorsetneonrun.com, in return for a donation to Diverse Abilities. Glow in the dark paint, glow sticks and event T-shirts can also be purchased online.
Emma Bovey, fundraising manager, commented, “The Dorset Neon Run is a big fundraiser for us, and while we would have loved to host the event in real life in September, we feel we have a duty of care to our community to hold off running mass participation events until guidelines are clearer.
“The income is so vital to our services that we need this event to take place in whichever way it is safe to do so. If you take part in the run, feel free to nominate a friend on social media to run it as well – it’s a great way to have a bit of fun while doing your daily exercise with the family.”
Visit dorsetneonrun.com to find out more and sign up by donating between £5 and £15.
