Wimborne Model Town, the volunteer-run educational charity will be celebrating 25 years at the ‘new’ King Street site with a special evening on Saturday 18 June with music, a barbecue and illuminations. A Silver Souvenir Guide has been produced covering the history of the attraction which opened in 1951, and how a determined group of local residents rallied together to ensure it had a future.
Pat Hymers, former chairman of Wimborne Model Town and leader of the group that saved the miniature buildings explained, “I thought that it was important to keep this unique attraction in our town, but also I wanted new generations of children to enjoy the experience of being a giant amongst those little buildings, peering into the well-stocked shop windows and listening with wonder to the organ playing in the model minster. There will always be that sense of magic in the Model Town for children and also a fascination for older visitors as they remember how Wimborne used to be.”
Advance tickets for the special evening, and copies of the new guide are available from the Model Town, call 01202 881924, or Wimborne Tourist Information Centre.
