You’d better shape up and get ready to have the time of your life when Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts welcomes Sing-a-long-a Grease and Sing-a-long-a Dirty Dancing on Saturday 16 January.
Both of these interactive film screenings begin with a host leading the audience in a vocal warm-up and talking them through the contents of their free ‘fun packs’, before it’s time to enjoy the film while dancing and singing along to the lyrics shown on the screen.
If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a T-Bird or a Pink Lady but never quite felt cool enough to pull it off, then Sing-a-long-a Grease is for you! Let your inhibitions go for an evening where you are the stars and Grease is the word.
Or you can join Baby and Johnny in a fun-filled screening of the1987 dance classic film Dirty Dancing starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. It’s the Summer of 1963 and it’s college boys versus dancing hunks in one of the best loved movies of all time.
The Sing-a-long-a concept was first born in an old people’s home in Inverness. The nurses wanted to involve the residents in an interactive group therapy, so screened Seven Brides For Seven Brothers and gave out song sheets so that everyone could sing along.
The idea was then developed for the Sound of Music for London’s Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in 1999, before opening at the Prince Charles Cinema in August of that year. After an initial eight-show run soon sold out and attracted huge media attention, regular shows have been running ever since all around the world.
