Actor, author and historian Sir Tony Robinson is coming to Dorset for an exclusive family history event.
Hosted by Ancestry.co.uk and in association with the Dorset History Centre, the event will be held at the Dorset History Centre in Dorchester from 6pm–9pm on Wednesday 30 October.
The evening will feature talks from County Archivist Sam Johnston and Ancestry.co.uk, before culminating in a speech from Britain’s most beloved historian, Sir Tony Robinson.
Sir Tony will give an insight into how Ancestry.co.uk can help you discover your family history and also discuss the rich history of the local area, before taking questions from the floor. Guests will then have an opportunity to meet him at the end of the evening.
The event will also showcase the services of Dorset History Centre itself, which is dedicated to preserving, sharing and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Bournemouth, Dorchester and Poole.
Comprising both the Dorset Record Office and the Dorset County Local Studies Library, the facility houses the county’s archives and serves as the chief location for people interested in researching their own family history and a wide range of other subjects. The History Centre currently has an impressive 9,500 collections to search with records dating back over 1000 years.
