Scooter, inline, skateboard and BMX users and riders have joined forces in a Skate Park Action Group for Ferndown.
Led by Chairman Steve Cartwright and Treasurer/Lead Fundraiser Steve Lugg, the Action Group, mainly comprising of young users, is looking to quickly raise £100,000 to extend the current provision for a large section of local young people, with a concrete bowl.
Funding will be found from statutory authorities, funding organisations, local companies and individual donations. A petition has just been started and already has the signatures of seventy local users.
Following the successful ‘Turndown at Ferndown’ event on 31 March, momentum is building towards the ‘Ferndown Skatefest’ on 25 May from midday at the KGV Fields site in Ferndown.
The town council will then officially open the new dirt BMX trail at the Ford Lane recreation ground behind McDonalds and Lidl, during the summer.
Treasurer and lead on funding for the Group local councillor Steve Lugg said, “This is a priority for young people in the Ferndown Town plan, and supports active and stronger communities. I ask local people and organisations to help us in partnership raise the money required for this new bowl.”
Specific plans are already being drawn up. The town council has been asked for a specific webpage for the Action Group, and you can find out more on Facebook at ‘Ferndown Skatefest’ and ‘Turndown at Ferndown.’
