The Verwood Solar Farm Fund Group handed over £2,500 to Hillside Community First School on 23 June, which will help fund a covered walkway on the premises.
The money, which forms part of a Community Fund Agreement between Second Generation Verwood Ltd and Verwood Town Council, will be put towards the costs of erecting a covered walkway from one of the mobile classrooms to the main school premises.
The Community Fund is administered on behalf of the council by Verwood Solar Farm Fund Group, with a committee made up of local people. The fund will be available for 20 years as solar farms play a growing role in UK energy.
Chairman Sue Reynolds said, “The committee voted unanimously in supporting the school’s project and hope the youngsters will benefit from it for years to come. We are actively seeking other Verwood groups that have a worthwhile project and wish to be considered.”
