A popular section of the South West Coast Path, close to The Smuggler’s Inn at Osmington Mills in Dorset has been improved with the help of sponsorship from Badger Ales and the South West Coast Path Association. The project is one of 120 improvement projects that are taking place in 2013 along the 630 miles of the South West Coast Path to mark its 40th anniversary.
A 50 metre section of the Coast Path at Osmington Mills had started to deteriorate due to a combination of use and poor drainage. Protruding tree roots and channelling out of the previous path surface had produced an uneven, difficult walking surface. Now a new, sealed surface has been laid down to make a much more pleasant walking experience.
The resurfaced path is not only part of the South West Coast Path but is also at the beginning of the South Dorset Ridgeway Trail. The path is well used by customers of the Smugglers Inn at Osmington Mills, as well as visitors staying in nearby campsites and holiday parks.
Anna Corbett, Brand Marketing Manager at Badger, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the South West Coast Path with this project close to The Smuggler’s Inn at Osmington Mills.”
The path re-surfacing project has been managed by Dorset County Council’s Coastal Ranger Team.
