Sporting success for Ferndown school
Not only are the boys and girls excelling in football at Ferndown Middle School, but the school has also won the School Games Gold Award.
Pupils at Ferndown Middle School are excelling on the sports field.
In an impressive season, Year 7 boy’s football team has won the county cup – for the second year in a row.
In addition, Year 5 and 6 girls’ team were runners-up in their first ever county cup final, and the school achieved its School Games Gold Award for the third consecutive year.
The school also received an award from The Dorset County Football Association for its exceptional commitment to promoting girls’ football.
The recognition forms part of the prestigious Equal Access Schools initiative.
Head of PE Simon Higgins said: “It has been a tremendous year at the school with the boys’ Year 7 team defeating our opponents 2-1 in the county final.
“And our girls’ Years 5 and 6 team reached their first ever county final, and we all hope they go one further next year and win it.
“In recognition of our development of girls’ soccer, the Dorset County Football Association presented us with an award.
“Girls’ football has become increasingly popular at the school – with England’s Lionesses inspiring them – and we want to get more of them involved.”
Acting headteacher Alysia Dolan said: “It has been a wonderful sporting year with some great successes.
“Sport teaches so many life lessons no matter good an individual is, and I know what benefits our children have gained from all the sport they do.”
Rhonda Moore, CEO of Castleman Academy Trust, which Ferndown Middle School belongs to, said: “All our schools place an emphasis on extra-curricular activities.
“Sport is one that we excel at across the trust, and Ferndown Middle School has had an exceptional year.
“You don’t win these awards and recognitions unless you really have made great strides.”
