Former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp and CBeebies presenter Chris Jarvis pitched in to help a local charity score big with young footballers.
Bournemouth-based Redknapp and Jarvis were invited along to the Moordown Football Club annual presentation at the Chine Hotel in Boscombe, where they told the young players all about the work of Round Table Children’s Wish.
The Moordown FC players and their families then raised £630 for the charity through the raffle of a signed Chelsea football and a signed copy of Harry Redknapp’s autobiography.
Redknapp and Jarvis are both patrons of Round Table Children’s Wish which is based in Moordown and grants wishes for children with life-limiting illnesses.
Popular wishes include trips to Disneyland Paris, swimming with dolphins, shopping sprees and visits to meet sporting heroes.
The charity’s business development worker, Prigette Smolka, said: “Both of my sons play for Moordown and I was thrilled when the club’s chairman Steve Large invited us along to be the guest charity at the awards ceremony.
“Harry was obviously very popular with all the boys and some of them asked for ‘selfies’, which he kindly agreed to.
“Chris Jarvis’s support as patron was also fantastic.
“He was happy to attend at very short notice and spoke to the players and their parents about the handcrafted wishes the charity has been granting for 25 years and how their support will enable even more wishes to be granted.”
Chris Jarvis said: “This was my first official engagement as a patron for the charity and it’s been wonderful to see so many young people doing their bit to help children who are going through difficult times.”
