Stewarts Garden Centre gains environment award

This award was given following annual inspections that recognise the continuous improvements made in areas relating to environmental impact on the wider community. The centre was top rated by the Garden Centre Association within the South Thames area of England.

Centre Manager, Paul Hilliam said that the centre has been determined to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

“Over the last 12 months we have reduced our landfill waste to just 50% by focusing on the recycling of materials including plastic pots, cardboard, glass, paper and food waste,” said Paul Hilliam.

“We have also introduced free drinking water through the Refill Dorset campaign and have earned the Litter Free Coast and Sea Business Award. We no longer provide plastic straws or single use coffee cups and used coffee grounds are offered to customers as free soil improver due to the high Nitrogen content.”

The Stewarts owned centres at Broomhill near Wimborne and Titchfield in Hampshire have also adopted the “less to landfill” policy.
