When Alan Thompson first got into swimming after a back operation in the 1980s, he might not have known what he was getting himself into!
He celebrated his seventieth birthday last month and is still working as a swimming instructor at Ferndown Leisure Centre, having started work there in November 1986. For Alan, it seems, age truly is just a number.
Asked about his the role, Alan said, “I enjoy working with children, and in the past I’ve taught students from Ferndown First and Middle schools. I’ve worked with a wide age range in my time and I’ve also taught Aquafit and snorkeling classes. It’s been great fun.”
