Metropolis in Bournemouth is hosting an exhibition by internationally renowned artist, Stuart Semple.
Since leaving his hometown of Bournemouth, Stuart’s paintings have become top international collections and are owned and loved by celebrities including Sienna Miller, Caroline Flack and Noel Gallagher.
After recently returning to Poole College, (where he studied), to open a new £1M North Light Centre and launch a yearly art prize, Stuart was invited to return to the area with a special exhibition of his lesser exposed large scale print works at Metropolis.
Called ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ the exhibition runs from 13 February until 20 March.
Stuart only produces two large-scale print editions a year in an exclusively low number, never more than 12 each. His print works have now become an essential way for collectors to obtain a significant work that has demanded an equal level of attention as his canvases, which now fetch up to six figures.
Stuart said he was really excited to be putting all the prints he’s made over the last decade together in one exhibition. “More than that, I can’t wait to finally show my work back home. I truly love Bournemouth and have wanted to do something like this for ages.”
To encourage young collectors who often can’t afford his work, Stuart has agreed to make a special signed limited edition print free for the first 50 under 21s to visit the show, (value £149).
Stuart is also keen to support collectors from his hometown and has decided that all works in the show will be available at half price to local residents with proof of address within 20 miles of the gallery. Metropolis is at 65 Seamoor Road, Westbourne.
these Stuart Semple clouds are awesome! bring them to the coast this summer!
to go from death bed to leading creative is inspiring
Can Stuart Semple do another exhibition in Dorset please! I just see all the opening’s Semple does in London and we need some culture down here! I love how Tatler wrote Semple’s exhibition was like a Brit Awards party that got gatecrashed. Must have been an epic night.
It’s come a long way since waterolours of Durdle Door and Cats. Glad a local lad’s bringing some culture back. Other than 3 days of “arts” it’s a wasteland. Congratulations on signing up worldwide Stuart.
I got a free Stuart Semple print too! Hanging pride of place on my wall. I’m signing up to a lecture to hear Semple talk as I think I’ll get more real life understanding of Stuart’s world than the lectures I’m in at the moment. I want to know more about Semple signing with a global agency. Seems game changing.
Thank you Stuart Semple for having this exhibition! I’ve not been to a gallery before that had art by anyone living. How crazy is that? I got a Semple print too and it’s pride of place on my wall and has started an obsession with collecting and looking. I’ve seen Semple is POA on artnet ha ha http://www.artnet.com/artists/stuart-semple/ but one day. Hope Stuart does more artwork events down South. It’s Lacking anything not involving cliff, fruit and cats.
