When Sixth Form students picked up their AS and A Level results at Bournemouth & Poole College there were smiles all round.
The success rates of 96.5% reflected the hard work of the students, who now have their next step for the future in place. An 86% AS pass rate was particularly impressive against the uncertainty of the impact on results of the government’s A Level reforms. A subject of note was AS Level Chemistry where students achieved a 100% pass rate, more than 20% above the national average.
One of the refreshing aspects of the college’s Sixth Form success was the variety of careers that the students were choosing to go onto.
Phoebe Burton was thrilled to get the grades she needed to go on to do Adult Nursing at Bournemouth University, saying: “I got my first choice, I can’t believe it. It’s a really competitive course, I’m speechless!”
Caitlyn Walters got the grades she needed to start her Digital Marketing Apprenticeship with LV= from September. “I was thinking about university but decided I wanted to work for a while and learn on the job. It’s a year-long apprenticeship so I have the option to go to university afterwards if I want to,” she said.
And Salome Kiknadze is aiming for a career as a Human Rights lawyer, and was excited to get the grades to be able to study Law at Queen Mary’s University of London saying: “I got my first choice and I’ve always wanted to go into Law. I’ve also just got a job with The Refugee Council in London and have applied for Amnesty International.”
Sorrell Linsley had an extra reason to celebrate. As well as getting the grades she needs to study Anthropology at the University of Sussex she’s also been granted a £3,000 bursary. She said: “I’m so happy, it’s incredible. Last year I got an E in Geography and now I’ve got a B!”
