Works are now complete on Queen Anne Drive, with the next phase to provide a safe travel route to Bear Cross Roundabout now underway.
The youngsters from Tops Day Nurseries in Leigh Road were invited by contractors to see the work going on to provide cycle paths.
Works in the area are to take place from 29 November to 11 March with a certain amount of delay to traffic flow anticipated.
With the promise of little traffic disruption, work began this week on a route to link Poole town centre with Holton Heath.
Work, which will be in two phases – starts this month to create cycleways from Poole town centre to Holton Heath.
The first section of the new cycle and pedestrian lanes are now open and further extensions are to follow.
Works will start in late July to link Bournemouth and Christchurch with pathways and end in autumn next year.
The green travel routes proposed connect Wimborne and Ferndown with Poole town centre and Merley to Christchurch.
The works, which start on 17 May and will last until the autumn, will see a number of measures including re-routing of traffic.
