Take part in a beach clean in Dorset
The event is taking place on numerous beaches in Dorset including Highcliffe and Rockley as well as those in the west of the county.
Beaches in Highcliffe, Durdle Door, Rockley and Lulworth are amongst numerous ones in Dorset which are participating in the Great British Beach Clean from Friday 17 to Sunday 26 September. Their location can be found on http://www.great-british-experiences.co.uk/
Last year, 30 per cent of beach cleans found face masks and PPE, and per 100m of beach, 425 litter items were found.
On every clean people are asked to run a litter survey, recording all the items of rubbish they find in a 100m stretch.
Data has been used to make a positive impact on our ocean – including the introduction of the plastic bag charge, banning microplastics in personal care products, better wet wipe labelling, and supporting a tax on single-use plastic items.
You can also organise your own beach clean. Just email beachwatch@mcsuk.org or call 01989 567807.
