Tall ship ‘Galeon Andalucia' coming to Poole Quay this summer
The historic tall ship ‘Galeon Andalucia’ will be docking at Poole Quay for a six-day exhibition from 30 July until 5 August.
Poole Business Improvement District (BID) has announced the ‘Galeon Andalucia’ will dock at Poole Quay for a six-day exhibition.
Funded by the BID.
The event promises to bring a wave of maritime history to the area, drawing visitors from far and wide.
‘Galeon Andalucia’ is an accurate replica of 17th-century Spanish galleons, which played pivotal roles in global trade and cultural exchange for over three centuries.
Constructed using a blend of innovative techniques and traditional craftsmanship, ‘Galeon Andalucia’ serves as a floating museum, not just a full-size replica vessel, but a unique interactive exhibition ship with over six decks displaying the history of these vessels and the age in which they operated. Jacqui Rock, BID lead, said: “We are excited to welcome ‘Galeon Andalucia’ to Poole Quay. This historic tall ship promises to be a significant draw for visitors, enriching our waterfront with its rich history and cultural significance. We believe that ‘Galeon Andalucia’ will not only enhance the appeal of our vibrant community but also contribute to increased footfall, benefiting local businesses and the wider community.”
Supported by Poole Harbour Commissioners, the exhibition will provide a rare opportunity for visitors to explore the intricate details and storied past of ‘Galeon Andalucia’.
Built by the Nao Victoria Foundation at the Punta Umbria shipyard in Spain, the tall ship has traversed over 70,000 nautical miles across the world’s oceans, participating in numerous cultural projects and engaging thousands of visitors at ports spanning four continents.
