Teenage cyclist suffers life-changing injury in Weymouth van crash
Police are seeking witnesses to a collision between a van and a cyclist in Weymouth that left a teenage boy with life-changing injuries.
A teenage cyclist suffered serious injuries in a road traffic collision in Weymouth.
Dorset Police received a report at 5.26pm on Thursday 10 April 2025 of a collision involving a van and a cyclist on The Esplanade, near to the Jubilee Clock Tower.
The cyclist – a teenage boy – was taken to hospital by air ambulance for treatment to life-changing injuries. He remains in hospital and his family has been made aware of the incident
Road closures were put in place as emergency services responded and enquiries were carried out. Following initial enquiries at the scene, a man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and driving offences.
He has been released under investigation as further enquiries are carried out.
Detective Constable Matt Barrett, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances of this incident and I am keen to hear from anyone with information that might assist our enquiries.
“We understand there were a number of people in the area at the time and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision, or the moments leading up to it, to please get in touch if you have not already spoken to police.
“I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam footage.
“Finally, we would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures, which were put in place to allow the emergency services to respond and for us to investigate this incident.”
