Dorset Police received a report at around 9pm on Tuesday 8 February of a collision on the A351 Sandford Road, between the Organford Road junction and the junction with Woodlands Drive, involving a car and a pedestrian.
Officers attended, along with the ambulance service, and the pedestrian, a 19-year-old local man, was taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment to serious injuries.
The driver of the car, a local man aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

Police Constable Mike Burt, of the traffic unit, said: “We are continuing to make enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision. I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.
“I would also ask anyone who was driving in the area around the relevant time who has dashcam fitted to please check their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.
