The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is inviting the public to send cards to its hardworking nurses this International Nurses’ Day – Tuesday 12 May.
Cards could be thank you cards for particular nurses known to the sender, or more general cards with words of encouragement and support for nurses they haven’t met. Cards could also share positive stories about past encounters with nurses to inspire card recipients.
The cards will be given out to RBCH nurses throughout the day in recognition of their hard work in a demanding profession.
International Nurses’ Day has been honoured by nurses since 1965. The day is celebrated annually on 12 May, the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale who is hailed as the founder of modern nursing.
RBCH Director of Nursing, Paula Shobbrook, said: “International Nurses’ Day is a wonderful chance for the public to celebrate the nursing profession as a whole, as well as the work of individual nurses.
“Our nurses work around the clock to deliver our patients the care they would expect for their own family. We really encourage the public to take this opportunity to connect with one of our nurses by thanking them, giving words of encouragement or sharing an inspiring story of an encounter with a nurse they have had in the past.”
Cards should be addressed to the care of Ellie Cowley, Communications Department, Trust Management Offices, Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Castle Lane East, Bournemouth BH7 7DW. Cards can also be dropped into the main reception at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
