The final chapter: 40-year-old bookshop to close in Fordingbridge
After 40 years of trading, The Fordingbridge Bookshop has made the difficult decision to close its doors.

An independent bookshop in Fordingbridge has announced that it will close its doors after 40 years of trading.
Located on Salisbury Street, The Fordingbridge Bookshop made the announcement on Saturday 1 February, saying that its last day of trading would be Saturday 22 February.
Writing on social media, the owners David and Michelle said: “As many of our regular customers will know, we have taken the difficult decision to close the shop at the end of February. Sorry for those of you that we haven’t managed to tell personally.
“Whilst not an easy decision to make, we are sure that you recognise and understand that the high street has changed, along with shopping habits.
“We know for many, as it is for us, this will be sad news as the bookshop has been in the town for over 40 years. We have enjoyed the last 12 years, being part of the community, chatting and spending time with you.”
The social media post received dozens of comments from local residents expressing their sadness about the announcement.
Responding to the post, Peter White said: “Very sad news. The Fordingbridge Bookshop has served the town so well. Always helpful to me and my family whenever we went in to order/buy books we wanted over the years.”
Meanwhile, Annette Wright said: “So sorry to hear that you are closing. You have been a blessing over many years, always willing to find that tricky book with a very quick turn round time. You will be greatly missed.”
The news in another unwelcome blow to Fordingbridge’s high street, as the bookshop is the second business to announce its closure in as many months. In January, the Italian restaurant La Lambretta declared it will close on Saturday 29 March.
