There Will Be Snow in Westbourne this Christmas when Choirs by Candlelight Returns
Westbourne starts its Victorian-themed Christmas celebrations with a free-to-attend Choirs by Candlelight service, complete with snow, held in the beautiful arcade on 30 November from 4 pm – 7.00pm

Taking place in Westbourne’s beautiful Grade II-listed Arcade with its eclectic mix of shops and cafes, this traditional and atmospheric free-entry event aims to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.
Complementing the Victorian-theme, there will be a Victorian storyteller while Victorian song sheet handlers will provide lyrics to traditional carols for all to join in.
There will also be late night shopping for adults plus local business GinJams will be treating visitors to Mulled Gin. Children’s entertainer Jamie Jigsaw will be wowing the little ones who can get their faces festively painted courtesy of Diamond Faces.
Paul Clarke, Chairman of Bournemouth’s Coastal BID, one of the organisations supporting Westbourne’s Victorian festivities, said, “Westbourne still has much of its Victorian architecture and the Arcade, built in 1884, is one of its most stunning buildings.
“I think everyone loves Dickens’ A Christmas Carol – after all, it’s the story that inspired so many of our festive traditions. We thought a Victorian-themed celebration would suit Westbourne perfectly and would appeal to residents and visitors alike, attracting many more shoppers into the town.”
Carols by Candlelight is just the first in a series of seasonal events taking place every weekend in the run-up to Christmas. The next day, on Saturday 1 December, Santa will take up residence in his grotto, there’ll be a festive feel to the Artisan Farmers Market and traditional family butchers, Peter Treble, will be holding his Annual Sausage Eating Competition.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy the talented Sound of Soul Choir and the eccentrically brilliant musician Rimskis Bicycle.
