You may remember an exciting football final between Germany and Argentina earlier this month, but it was Spain who lifted the World Cup trophy in Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s 6-a-side tournament on Sunday.
The reds breezed their way through to the final at the Littledown Centre before finishing their last match with a 2-0 win over Uruguay. They were awarded a special replica World Cup trophy and, together with the 26 other teams that took part, helped raise an impressive £4,000 for the charity.
Spain’s World Cup winning captain, Simon Croydon, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to take the trophy home. It was a sweltering day but a real laugh and lots of the teams made a real effort with their kits.
“It was a fantastic day and a brilliant way to raise money for such a great cause. Our only regret is that we weren’t representing England – a photo of the England team lifting the World Cup in 2014 would have been even better!”
