Tour of Britain race timings announced
This major international race will pass through Dorset for the first time on 10 September, visiting Wimborne Minster and Ferndown.
If you would like to see riders pass through Dorset in the Tour of Britain on Saturday 10 September, you will need to make a note of the timings in your diary.
This is the first time this major international race will have passed through the county.
Leaving West Bay at 11am, it will reach Wimborne Minster at 2.24pm, Verwood at 2.45pm and Victoria Road, Ferndown at 3pm where the town will host the finish of stage seven.
The route enters Ferndown along West Moors Road, turns right onto Wimborne Road East and then turns left onto Victoria Road. Road closures will be in place at Victoria Road from 4.30am until 9pm on Saturday 10 September.
A rolling road closure will be enforced on the stage route. This means roads on and around the race route will be closed to traffic by police escort vehicles.
Closures are in place for a short period (usually around 30 minutes) to allow the race to pass safely.
The route is marked with yellow advanced warning signs in the run up to the Tour of Britain. People are asked not to park on the route on the day: if necessary, vehicles may have to be removed.
Dorset Council is advising people to keep children back from the edge of the road and put animals on a lead, away from the roadside. Riders pass by very fast, and while the council encourages support, keep flags, objects and photography equipment out of the road.
The Tour of Britain is escorted along the route by trained police officers and escort motorcyclists.
The race is taking a route from West Bay, passing through Burton Bradstock, Abbotsbury, Chickerell, Weymouth, Dorchester, West Lulworth, Corfe Castle, Wareham, Bere Regis and Blandford Forum, before reaching Wimborne Minster.
For details of timings, road closures and alternative routes check the Dorset Council website.
