A partial road closure that was being trialled in Poole Park as part of the bid for Heritage Lottery Funding will be fully reopened on Saturday 30 July.
The road between the middle car park, near the roundabout, and the Kitchen Restaurant was temporarily closed between 4pm and 6pm every week day during July. The park was also opened to vehicles an hour earlier at 9am throughout this period.
The trial road closure was implemented following feedback from previous public consultations that showed park users wanted the level of traffic through the park to be reduced during peak times.
The trial aimed to:
– Support Borough of Poole’s consultation work as part of Poole Park Life, as well as provide evidence of the impact a road closure might have on traffic volumes and the improvement it provides for park users
– Enable the park to remain open with full access to all car parks, businesses and concessions, as just a section of the through-road was closed.
– Make use of the term time and school holiday traffic flows to monitor the effects during these periods
Martin Whitchurch, Poole Park Life Project Manager, Borough of Poole, said: “We would like to thank everyone who took the time to give us their views during the month long trial. Although the trial has finished, the consultation is open until 6 August. We will assess the feedback received, together with the results from monitoring the effect of the road closure, with a view to presenting proposals to Members later in the year.”

The results will form part of the bid to secure £2.7 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
