Cllr Trish Jamieson has been sworn in as the Mayor of Christchurch.
She was first elected as a Conservative councillor for the West Highcliffe ward in 2003 and has served in that ward since then.
Trish was born in Kent but moved with her family to Water Orton, a village near Birmingham, just before her fourth birthday. She grew up in that area and completed a correspondence course to qualify as a company accountant while employed with a local manufacturing company. Trish moved to London in 1977, where she finished her working career as chief accountant with a national charity.
She retired to Christchurch with her partner, Danny, in 1996 and a year later was employed by Burton Parish Council as the parish clerk, a role she held until February this year. Trish has a daughter Caroline, a granddaughter Estelle and a golden retriever Max.
On being chosen as mayor, Cllr Jamieson said: “It is an incredible honour and privilege and I will carry out my duties with dignity as befits our wonderful ancient borough and its tradition. I also plan to have a lot of fun and enjoyment doing it!”
Her chosen charities for the year are: Stable Family Home Trust, which gives a rang of support services to adults with learning disability; Teenage Cancer Trust South, based at Southampton Hospital and Woofability, a local charity that trains assistance dogs for disabled people in Dorset, Hampshire and south Wiltshire.
Cllr Nick Geary was elected to serve as deputy mayor.
