A record breaking 500 people registered for Bournemouth Hospital Charity’s Twilight Walk for Women that took place on Friday evening (5 June).
The wave of pink went along the seafront after the start ribbon was cut by The Klaxons’ bass guitarist and singer, Jamie Reynolds and charity patron Fiona Castle, who both joined the walk.
Fundraisers covered a distance of 1km, 5km or 10km to raise money for medical equipment for the new Jigsaw Building at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH). The building is due to open later this year and will include a state-of-the-art Women’s Health Unit and Cancer and Blood Disorders Unit that will benefit thousands of patients.
Barry Wilson, Events Officer for Bournemouth Hospital Charity, said: “This year has been our best yet in terms of registrations and we’re hoping this is reflected in the amount of money we raise.
“Sponsorship money has already started to come in and we’d like all walkers to submit their sponsorship by 10 July. Sponsor money can be dropped into the Charity Office in the main atrium at RBH, be paid by calling the Fundraising Team on 01202 704060 or online www.bournemouthhospitalcharity.org.uk
“A big thank you to everybody who took part and those who helped make the event possible, including our wonderful volunteers and our official sponsor The Village Hotel.”
Bournemouth Hospital Charity aims to raise £2m each year to support the patient experience above and beyond what the NHS provides. Donations to the charity provide the funding for much needed equipment and resources.
