Two Bournemouth men were jailed for attempted robbery after appearing at Bournemouth Crown Court on 15 August.
One of the men was also sentenced to imprisonment for another offence of robbery earlier the same day.
Damien Johnson, 23, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery on 23 July and Kyle Mayez,19, pleaded guilty to an offence of robbery and attempted robbery on 24 June, at Bournemouth Crown Court.
Johnson was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment and Mayez received a sentence of a total of three years and 18 months – three years for attempted robbery and 18 months for robbery, to run concurrently.
The court heard evidence that at approximately 11.30am on Sunday 15 June, the first victim, a 20-year-old local man, attended an address of a friend on Stourvale Road in Bournemouth. While at that address, Mayez attended the property, threatened him and stole his mobile phone.
Later on the same day, at approximately 11.30pm the second victim, a 54-year-old man was walking along a footpath near to his home in the Littledown area of Bournemouth when Mayez and Johnson attacked him from behind. His rucksack was pulled off his shoulder and he sustained a small knife wound in his back, however, they ran off empty handed when the police were called.
An extensive police search and enquiries led to Johnson and Mayez being arrested a short while later. Further police enquiries led to the earlier offence of robbery coming to light and the first victim being identified.
Detective Constable Ben Morgan, of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said: “I welcome this sentence and hope it shows other would be offenders that this criminality will not be tolerated.
“It was fortunate that there were no serious injuries.
“I praise the good work of all involved in bringing these offenders to justice.”
