Perry McCarthy, the black-suited, original Stig on TV’s Top Gear has been unmasked as the main speaker and VIP guest at the 2016 inaugural Coastal BID Wheels gala dinner.
The ex-Formula One star who appeared in 22 episodes of the hit BBC series, now looks set to get the first ever Wheels Gala Dinner, on Friday 3 June, off to a flying start.
Perry McCarthy was cast as the original Stig in 2002 after unplanned meeting with Jeremy Clarkson at the launch of his autobiography, ‘Flat Out, Flat Broke: Formula 1 the Hard Way!’
After a life in the fast lane, McCarthy has now swapped the racing track for the after dinner circuit, working as a corporate ambassador and after dinner speaker for major corporations around the world. Also, he owns Topgear Tuning, an advanced ECU remapping business, which is based in Bridport, north Dorset .
His speeches are fast paced and include stories about his time on Top Gear, his rise to Formula One and not to mention some misadventures at 200mph. He also likes to include a few comic sketches about Lewis Hamilton, Nigel Mansell, Murray Walker and of course, Jeremy Clarkson, to name a few.
The Coastal BID is the title sponsor of the 2016 Wheels Festival. Chairman, Paul Clarke, commented: “We are very proud to welcome Perry McCarthy, the original Stig, as the main after dinner speaker and VIP guest at our very first Wheels Gala Dinner. This promises to be a night not to be missed – a real showcase event to celebrate the eventful town that we live and work in. This is destined to be sold-out event. The Wheels Gala Dinner will be a black tie, exclusive event, guests will be treated to a three-course meal with wine, not to mention spectacular cars, entertainment and more.”
And Perry McCarthy seems to be excited about the event as well: “I’m delighted to be attending the Wheels Gala Dinner, and I am looking forward to having a fun evening with the guests and sharing a few laughs with those attending.’
